THE ARLBERG - THE CRADLE OF ALPINE SKIING

For over a century, the Arlberg with the towns of Lech and Zürs has been known for winter sports, snow, hospitality, tradition and culinary delights. That is why Lech is a member of "Best of the Alps". The Arlberg has always stood for a pioneering spirit in winter sports: Hannes Schneider revolutionised the technique of skiing with the Arlberg School, Austria's first T-bar lift was built in Zürs in 1937 and the Galzigbahn in St. Anton was the first cable car designed for winter operation.
The Arlberg ski area has been connected to Warth-Schröcken since 2013. The construction of the Flexenbahn in 2017 created the largest contiguous ski area in Austria and the fifth largest in the world.
With the "Ski Arlberg Card" you have access to 88 cable cars and lifts - 300 km of ski runs of all levels of difficulty and 200 km powder runs - this makes the ski area around the towns of Lech, Zürs, St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben and Warth-Schröcken one of the most beautiful winter sports destinations.
For maximum comfort, the lift operators rely on innovative high-tech infrastructure. An average of nine meters of snowfall per winter and around 70 percent of the slopes with artificial snow make the ski area around the Arlberg one of the most snow-reliable ski areas.

Not only ambitious winter sports enthusiasts enjoy the fantastic landscape. Lech Zürs and Oberlech also offer a lot of variety away from the ski slopes.

  • Winter hiking / snowshoeing
  • Cross-country skiing - classic & skating
  • Bobsledding on a 1.2 km bobsleigh track
  • Horse-drawn sleigh rides
  • Ice skating / curling
  • Activities at Sportpark Lech
  • Skyspace guided tours
  • traditional museums
  • Wildlife watching
  • Paragliding

Arriving in Lech am Arlberg in winter

ARRIVING BY CAR

You can drive to our front door in both summer and winter. Lech belongs to Austria's westernmost province, Vorarlberg, and is located on the B198. Coming from the south, it goes via Alpe Rauz through the Flexengalerie and Zürs to Lech. Drive all the way through the village and then turn left in the direction of Oberlech. At the second bend (Haus Bergquell) continue straight ahead for 50m and you have reached your destination (on the left).

Roadblock in winter between Lech - Warth

When you arrive, please note that the Lech - Warth route is usually closed during the winter months due to the risk of avalanches. The arrival in winter must be via Stuben or St. Anton!

If in doubt, just give us a call.

Motorway vignette

Motorways in Austria are subject to tolls. Vignettes are available at border crossings, petrol stations, post offices, tobacconists, your automobile club and Lech Zürs Tourismus. You can buy the digital vignette ONLINE up to 18 days before the required start of validity.

Winter equipment

Winter tires are compulsory in Austria from November 1st to April 15th. We also recommend bringing snow

chains, as chains are required in appropriate conditions.

ARRIVAL BY TRAIN

You can travel comfortably by train with the Austrian Federal Railways. Destinations are the train station Langen or St. Anton am Arlberg. With the door-to-door luggage service, ÖBB also offers a luggage delivery service - from your home to Pension Bergland and of course back again. Coming from Vienna, overnight travel to the Arlberg is possible with the ÖBB Nightjet.

Some trains only stop either in Langen or in St. Anton.

From St. Anton am Arlberg, you can continue your journey to Lech Zürs by bus line 92. From Langen am Arlberg it is bus line 91. From Lech to Oberlech, line 4 goes to the Spitzenegg stop. Current bus timetables can be found here.

For a relaxed and reliable transfer in a taxi, we recommend a reservation at Taxi "Der Lecher"

On the busy travel weekends in winter, early booking is essential. Shared taxis may also be possible.

If you are arriving by train from neighboring countries, see Trainline for connections and prices.

ARRIVAL BY PLANE

For all those travelling from afar or who generally prefer air travel, the destination airports are Zurich,

Friedrichshafen, Innsbruck, Memmingen (Allgäu) or Munich.

We recommend Zurich Airport in conjunction with the Arlberg Express Airport Shuttle .

To get from the airport to Lech, it is of course up to you whether you want to drive a rental car, use public

transport (bus and train) or have "Der Lecher" Airport Taxi chauffeur you right to your front door.

If you are arriving by train, see Trainline connections and prices.
